ARK: Survival Evolved

In celebration of ARK: Survival Evolved’s public opening on Steam, Studio Wildcard is giving a special invitation to all Steam players who were stomped on by The Stomping Land. As a way of saying welcome to their new dinosaur home on ARK, all owners of TSL will automatically receive an exclusive “Stomped Land Bling Shades” cosmetic accessory for riding around in style on their Tyrannosaurus Rex, something that Stomped players have been waiting to do for a long time. [For the record, no Studio Wildcard dev had anything to do with that game! Just sympathetic ;)]

Powered by Unreal Engine 4, ARK: Survival Evolved takes on the survival genre with a unique blend of emergent multiplayer cooperation and competition. Players awake naked and starving on the beach of a mysterious island called ARK among a herd of other confused humans. They must then hunt, harvest, craft, research technology, and build shelters to protect against scorching days, freezing nights, volatile weather systems, dangerous wildlife, and potential enemies. Tame and ride one of 70-plus amazing dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts, including gargantuan creatures on a scale never before seen in video games! Fly a Pterodactyl squadron over snow-capped mountains, race through the deep jungle with your pack of trained Raptors, tromp through a fortified enemy base along a convoy of gigantic Brontosaurus, or chase down prey on the back of a raging T-Rex.

ARK: Survival Evolved will launch in 2016 on PlayStation4 with Project Morpheus support, Xbox One via the ID@Xbox program, and Steam, including Oculus Rift VR support and a thorough integration of Steam community features such as Steam Economy and Steam Workshop for custom maps and mods. Players will also be able to host private/LAN servers, and have access to a custom-built version of the Unreal 4 Editor for creating mods. The world of ARK is designed to be player-oriented and ever-expanding!

Mystery Maze of Balthasar Castle

The catacombs of Balthasar Castle, steeped in mystery, will become a great adventure for five animal friends. Defeat every labyrinth and solve every puzzle together – this is the premise of the first casual game from Mack Media. “Mystery Maze of Balthasar Castle” will be released on the 40th birthday of Europa-Park: 12 July 2015.

In the puzzle adventure “Mystery Maze of Balthasar Castle”, players must correctly combine the various skills of the different characters in order to move through the levels. After a jam-packed day at the theme park, the characters (Euromaus, Euromausi, Böckli, Louis and Eurofant) want to take a break in the historical Balthasar Castle. They accidentally step on a trap door and plunge into the forgotten dungeons of the sacred old castle. Only together can they get out of the mysterious labyrinth and defeat the evil Nachtkrapp night raven.

Germany’s largest theme park is setting new benchmarks with this strategic adventure game. It is the first time Mack Media has developed one of its own games, and it is targeting all age groups. After the successful implementation of the 4D films “The Secret of Balthasar Castle” and “The Time Carousel”, the casual game is the next big shot in the media offerings of the world’s largest seasonal theme park.

Michael Mack, CEO of Mack Media, is proud of the first self-produced game: “It has been my dream for a long time to bring our own game onto the market. The result is outstanding. We are certain that this will mean Europa-Park also finds its way into the homes of our visitors.”

The game has been developed by Caipirinha Games, which has already had seven titles in the top ten of the Media Control Charts since it was founded in 2003. The distribution partner for the sale of the game outside of Europa-Park is the renowned company Koch Media, the largest independent publisher of computer games in Europe. Libredia will distribute the game online via its worldwide network of download portals.

“Mystery Maze of Balthasar Castle” will launch this Summer on PC, Mac, iOS, Android and Windows Phone on the 12th of July.

Schrödinger’s Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark

Independent publisher Team17 and indie dev Italic Pig launched the fast-and-furious, action-adventure, platformer-puzzler Schrödinger’s Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark, for Xbox One and PS4 last week (€ 8,99). We are already working on the review, but we want to point this game out to you in this Inside Indie as well.

Cooked up by the team behind the gritty, grown-up point and click trilogy Hector: Badge of Carnage and featuring the voice talent of the brilliant A.J. LoCascio (known for his role as Marty McFly in Telltale Games’ Back to the Future), Schrödinger’s Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark is part combat-platformer, part logic-puzzler, part open-world explorer, part character-driven adventure! It’s only appropriate that a game starring Schrödinger’s Cat can be many things at the same time.

Set in The Particle Zoo, a catastrophic event has caused all enclosures to open and all the primitive particles to escape! What used to be a cheery theme-park style environment is now utter chaos, and not in the mathematical sense of the word. The Zoo is put on lockdown, and the emergency services are called in to sort everything out. Those emergency services? Schrödinger’s Cat, of course.

Thankfully he’s not alone; by collecting and commanding an army of cuddly quarks, Schrödinger’s Cat can combine and create a total of 14 unique abilities to solve any problems he may encounter across the gorgeous 30+ levels of quirky gameplay. Reach new heights with the copter, blast your way through with the bomb and craft a handy net to capture those pesky escapees!

Voice of Steel

Point Cloud Studio today announced the development of their online physics-based robot fight simulator, “Voice of Steel”. The game allows players to build their own fighter robot, create their own unique movesets, and pit their creations against other player’s robots online.

Voice of Steel runs on a physics engine that determines everything from the characteristics of your robot’s different parts to the effectiveness of its moves. Players can create custom robots that are completely unique by not only building them from scratch with 16 different modules, but also creating their own fighting styles. The force and impact of punches and blows are determined based on mass and velocity, so throwing your patented “Frog Punch” at the right time and angle might just win you the match! The game will support traditional keyboard and gamepad controls as well as voice control, allowing players to execute that special move without having to input an unnecessarily long string of commands.

Voice of Steel has recently been Greenlit on Steam and is currently collecting funds on Kickstarter. The game is slated for a PC release in summer 2016, with a PS4 and Xbox One version to follow in fall 2016.

Completely physics-based
Point Cloud studio has developed a unique physics engine which allows you to animate your custom robot and create movements and strikes for them. The skeleton of the robot has more than 2000 connections; it is simulating rigid structures, joints, tendons and muscles. No ragdolls! Since the engine takes into account the mass and the velocity of each collider from head to heel, a properly delivered blow can mean the difference between a victory and a loss.

Create your own fighter
Each robot consists of 16 modules with varying characteristics. This allows for over 100 thousand unique combinations before you’ve given your robot a lick of paint.

Freedom of movement
The engine allows you to create any movement or punch you can imagine and use it in a fight. This gives you the opportunity to create a fighting bot with a truly unique fighting style. After all, your “Frog Punch” or “Double Punch To The Head” at a special angle can give a great advantage when your opponent least expects it.

Maximum control
The game has a traditional keyboard and gamepad control scheme, as well as a unique voice control system which will allow you to manage your fighter by voice. After all, remembering and saying the name of the blow you came up with yourself is a lot easier than remembering a complicated string of button inputs.

Mortadelo & Filemon: Frenzy Drive

The slapstick secrets agents Mort & Phil have been comic book heroes in Spain for over 50 years, then they became stars of their own 3D movie, and now the hapless action heroes are celebrating the release of their frenetic free-to-play racing adventure Frenzy Drive!

“We have already more than half a million downloads in the recent release in Spain added CEO Ruben Soriano, “These numbers make us very happy, especially as players rate the game at an average of 4 stars! We’re filled with relief and pride!”

Frenzy Drive will have fans all over the world zooming their way through busy traffic fighting off bad guys – the game is localized to 10 different languages.

In Frenzy Drive, Mort & Phil screech onto handheld devices in a speedy caper which sees you racing through busy city streets in your choice of customizable vehicles, fighting to save the city from the villainous forces of Jimmy the Freak with the brainless use of powerful and sometimes very silly upgradable weapons, aiming to save the day for the T.I.A.

Players can weave their way through crazy traffic with a swipe of a finger, fending off attacks from ever-more powerful bad guys who only get tougher as you progress. To beat them, you can equip your agents with the ultimate T.I.A. inventions including the mighty death ray, “bomb throwing slingshot” or a plasm carbine. Mort can also use extremely laughable costumes to look fancy, but also get some gameplay bonus and rewards. Frenzy Drive has left thousands of gamers thrilled and exhausted both from experiencing the exhilarating gameplay and laughing at the madcap humor.

Jumping into the driving seat is totally free, but as you progress towards saving the day you can upgrade your arsenal, wardrobe and vehicle options a little faster by collecting coins (or eggplants) either within the game, or purchased online. With so many things to find, collect and upgrade, you’ll be glad you did, and you can get started by visiting the App Store or Google Play today!

Expeditions: Viking

Danish indie developer Logic Artists announced yesterday that they have begun development on the second installment in their historical RPG Expeditions series, Expeditions: Viking. Set in the late 700’s A.D., Expeditions: Viking is a tactical RPG where players inherit the leadership of their clan. Charged with elevating their clan’s status, players must seek adventure in far-away lands and defending their home from their enemies, both foreign and domestic.

With the announcement, Logic Artists has also revealed some details about the game. Building upon the original designs of their first game, Expeditions: Conquistador, the Logic Artists team have also taken player suggestions to heart, announcing that the Expeditions Sequel will have an upgradable player village, which they must return to between expeditionary raids to build and protect. Over-land travel and combat will now exist as part of the same layer, transitioning from unrestricted, exploratory movement to turn-based combat smoothly. Additionally, players will see their character manifested in the game world, not just as a role-playing character for conversations and decision making (as was in the first of the Expeditions series), but also visibly represented in travel and combat as a custom character.

“We are very excited to return to our roots in the RPG genre, and as developers from the Nordic region, to make a game in a setting that is a lot closer to home than anything we’ve done before”, said Jonas Wæver, Creative Director for Logic Artists.“We’re improving on the Conquistador formula with deeper and more dynamic systems for character progression, combat abilities, role-playing, choice and consequence, and expanding on our favorite part of Conquistador: camping and wilderness survival”.

About Expeditions: Viking
