I am not going to promise you that this year we will get more Inside Indie Episodes…that it will be regular again…because I know I cannot keep that promise. I will however continue to surprise you all once in a while with games that have not been discussed before (or just not that much).

As we regular post about Indie games and the not-so-well-known games…there is not so much need for a more regular form (and your author is way too busy with other matters 🙂 ). But enough about that…let’s start with the picks of this episode.

The Culling

Jump into a remote island paradise and join a 16-player battle for supremacy as you explore, scavenge items, craft weapons, and build traps that will enable you to slay your fellow contestants and emerge victorious before the end of the round.

Only with cunning, skill and a little luck will you be able to prevail and survive the deadly game of life and death that is The Culling.

“I asked a small, talented team to come up with their dream game and gave them the autonomy to build it,” said Michael McMain, Founder and CEO of Xaviant. “The Culling is the result of that effort. It has been the highlight of my career!”

Unlike add-on modes in open-world survival games, The Culling redefines the battle royale genre by providing a tightly focused stand-alone experience that delivers incredible thrills and a competitive arena for players to duke it out. Only one will be crowned the winner. Do you have the guts to survive?

The Flame in the Wood

A rogue-lite river journey through the backwaters of a forgotten post-societal America. Forage, craft, evade predators. For PC, Mac, and Xbox One on February 24th.

From the Art Director of BioShock and a team of veterans of the BioShock, Halo, Guitar Hero and Rock Band series comes The Flame in the Flood.

Travel by foot and by raft down a procedurally-generated river as you scrounge for resources, craft tools, remedy afflictions, evade the vicious wildlife, and most importantly, stay ahead of the coming rains.

Featuring an original full length soundtrack by acclaimed Alt-Country rocker Chuck Ragan featuring The Camaraderie, The Fearless Kin and other special guests.

We are the Dwarves

The Dwarven stars are slowly dying– putting the race at the edge of extinction. Hope lies in the depths of the Endless Stone, and 3 dwarven astronauts are sent on a perilous mission to find new life for their race. We Are The Dwarves explores the depths of space, and a mission gone wrong, helmed by brave dwarven explorers – Smashfist, Forcer, and Shadow. Explore worlds and battle alien lifeforms in 3rd person action reminiscent of classics like Commandos and Dawn of War II.

Launching on February 26 for Windows, Mac, and Linux, Whale Rock Games have released an in-depth look into the gameplay of their upcoming tactical adventure, We Are The Dwarves. Smashfist, Forcer, and Shadow all have a key role to play in your journey, and come together to form the dynamic balance between control, support, and stealth. In this video, Alexey Moskovchenko, project lead on We Are The Dwarves, shows just how crucial this understanding is, by showing each of the three dwarves abilities, and their implementation using the tactical strategy element of active pause.

Escape from Tarkov

Battlestate Games, the creators of hardcore online shooter Escape from Tarkov, is on the brink of hitting its Alpha milestone. Today the team revealed the first in its ongoing series of developer diaries, this one providing insight into the procedural animation and character animation system including behind-the-scenes mo-cap views. The video features numerous elements of the weapon handling — shooting, misfiring, and several other components unique to the online game.

Escape from Tarkov is a hardcore online game that combines FPS/TPS with RPG elements. The game events unfold in the sealed off Russian city of Tarkov, which has become a scene of a local conflict between two private military companies. As a hazardous environment combat simulator, the game uses multiple system modules for ultimately immersive gameplay and a complete feeling of reality. The closed beta-testing of Escape from Tarkov is planned for 2016.

Heaven’s Hope

The life of an Angel is never easy, especially if they’ve accidentally crash landed on Earth. This is exactly what happened to Talorel, the Hero of Heaven’s Hope, the new point ‘n click adventure game from Eurovideo Medien and Mosaic Mask Studio.

Earth is a strange place, and the small, late 19th century English town of Heaven’s Hope is even stranger, as the fanatical nun Greta has reinstalled the Inquisition. Talorel will meet many charming characters and funny companions on his mission to get back to Heaven.

There are tons of riddles to solve in this 12-15 hour long adventure, featuring mini-games, a strong, optional player-aid system that will provide valuable clues and keep gamers informed on what’s going on. All of these features combine to make Heaven’s Hope an ideal game for all audiences, from pro-adventure gamers through to those new to the genre.

Heaven’s Hope will be available on February 25 2016 on Steam for PC.

Ok, Epic Games is not a small studio, but according to several listings they are still considered Indie as Independent …and as we did not post about this awesome game I will add them here anyway 😉
